Indications
- Emergency treatment of shock
- Treatment of burns
- Treatment of hypoproteinemia with or without edema
Pharmacology
- Contributes to plasma colloid oncotic pressure
- Transports hormones, enzymes, medicines, and toxins
- Has antioxidant properties
- Scavenges free radicals
- Maintains capillary membrane integrity
Dosage & Administration
- For intravenous administration only
- Can be diluted with 5% glucose or 0.9% sodium chloride
- Dosage and infusion-rate should be adjusted to the patient’s individual requirements and indication
Interactions
- Should not be mixed with protein hydrolysates or alcoholic solutions
- Risk of atypical reactions to ACE inhibitors in patients undergoing therapeutic plasma exchange
Contraindications
- Severe anemia
- Cardiac failure
- History of allergic reactions to human albumin

- Hypotension
- Vascular overload leading to pulmonary edema

Precautions & Warnings
- Hypertension or low cardiac reserve
- Additional fluids for dehydrated patients
- Monitor for signs of cardiac overload
- Risk of viral transmission
- Volume administration and rate of infusion must be individualized according to situation and response
Use in Special Populations
- No clinical studies in pediatric patients
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients
