Indications

  • Healing of Erosive Esophagitis
  • Maintenance of Healed Erosive Esophagitis
  • Symptomatic Non-Erosive Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Pharmacology

  • Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)
  • Suppression of gastric acid secretion
  • Dual Delayed Release (DDR) formulation
  • Oral administration
  • Metabolized in the liver
  • Excreted by urine

Dosage

  • 30 mg Once daily for maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis and relief of heartburn
  • 30 mg Once daily for symptomatic Non-Erosive GERD
  • 60 mg Once daily for healing of erosive esophagitis
  • 30 mg tablet once daily for 6 months in adults
  • 30 mg tablet once daily for 4 weeks in patients 12 to 17 years of age

Administration

  • Can be taken without regard to food
  • Swallowed whole
  • Granules should not be chewed
  • Optional administration with granules

Interaction

  • With medicine: Atazanavir, Warfarin, Tacrolimus, Clopidogrel & Methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category B
  • No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
  • No adequate and well-controlled studies in lactating mother

Precautions & Warnings

  • Gastric Malignancy
  • Clostridium difficile Associated Diarrhea
  • Bone fracture
  • Hypomagnesemia
  • Concomitant use with Methotrexate

Use in Special Populations

  • Safety and effectiveness in patients below 12 years not established
  • No dose adjustment necessary for elderly patients
  • No dose adjustment for renal impairment
  • No dose adjustment for mild hepatic impairment
  • Consider maximum daily dose of 30 mg for moderate hepatic impairment

Overdose Effects

  • No reports of significant overdose
  • Did not result in death or severe adverse events
