Osartil Plus 50 mg+12.5 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Treatment of hypertension
• Reducing risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy

Pharmacology

• Inhibits angiotensin II binding to AT1 receptor
• Potent vasoconstrictor
• Stimulates aldosterone secretion
• Blocks aldosterone-secreting effects
• Selective angiotensin II receptor antagonist
• Thiazide diuretic
• Affects renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption

Dosage

• Starting dose of 50/12.5 once daily
• Maximum dose of 100/25 once daily
• Antihypertensive effect within three weeks
• No initial dosage adjustment for elderly patients
• Severe hypertension starting dose of 50/12.5 once daily
• Titration for severe hypertension

Administration

• May be administered with other antihypertensive agents
• Can be taken with or without food

Interaction

• No significant drug-drug pharmacokinetic interactions
• Potential interactions with potassium-sparing diuretics
• Interaction with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug Indomethacin
• Interactions with alcohol, barbiturates, and narcotics

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
• Anuria or hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs

• Hepatitis
• Palpitation
• Rash
• Anemia
• Renal impairment
• Sleep disorders

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Avoided in pregnancy unless essential
• Limited information on use during breastfeeding
• Not recommended in breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings

• Angiooedema
• Periodic determination of serum electrolytes
• Hypokalemia may develop
• Impaired renal function
• Symptomatic hypotension

Use in Special Populations

• Use in Patients with Renal Impairment
• Use in Patients with Hepatic Impairment
• Not recommended in pediatric patients

Overdose Effects

• Manifestations: hypotension and tachycardia
• Supportive treatment for symptomatic hypotension
• Limited data available in regard to overdosage in humans
