Description
Benzimidazole anthelmintic
Pharmacology
- Activity: Vermicidal, ovicidal, larvicidal
- Mechanism of Action: Inhibitory effect on tubulin polymerization
Dosage & Administration
- Adults & Children over 2 years:
- 400 mg as a single dose for specific infections
- 400 mg daily for 3 days in cases of strongyloidiasis or taeniasis
- Children of 1-2 years: Recommended dose of 200 mg
- Hydatid disease (Echinococcosis):
- 400 mg twice daily for patients over 60 kg
- 15 mg/kg body weight daily for patients under 60 kg
- 400 mg once daily for giardiasis

Contraindications
- Neonates: Not normally used
- Children: Reduced dose for < 10 kg
- Pregnant Woman: Avoided during pregnancy
- Concurrent Disease: No need to alter dosage
