Indications

  • Reduces blood sugar levels
  • Belongs to sulphonylurea group
  • Used in type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults
  • When diet and exercise alone are not sufficient to manage blood sugar levels

Pharmacology

  • Gliclazide is a second generation sulfonylurea drug
  • Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic cells
  • Facilitates Ca+2 transport across beta-cell membranes
  • Decreases hepatic glucose output

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual initial dose is 40-80 mg daily
  • Dose can be increased up to 320 mg daily when needed
  • Take before meals
  • Recommended daily dose is 1-4 tablets (max 120 mg) in a single intake at breakfast time
  • Tablet is for oral use
  • Should be taken with a glass of water at breakfast time
  • Must always eat a meal after taking the tablet(s)

Contraindications
