Indications

Pharmacology

Ivermectin selectively binds to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in invertebrates, leading to increased cell membrane permeability and parasite death

Dosage & Administration

  • For Treatment (If COVIO Positive): 2 Tablets of Ivermectin 6 mg once daily for 5 days
  • For Prophylaxis:
    • Depends on body weight
    • Single dose on Day 1 & same dose on Day 7

Interaction

Rare reports of increased INR when co-administered with warfarin

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the product

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category: C
  • Use in Nursing Mothers: Excreted in low concentrations in human milk. Should be used cautiously if benefits outweigh risks

Precautions & Warnings

  • Mazzotti Reaction: Reactions due to allergic and inflammatory responses to the death of microfilariae
  • Use in Patients with Loa loa infection: Potential development of serious or fatal encephalopathy
  • Pediatric Use: Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients weighing less than 15 kg not established
  • Geriatric Use: Limited studies in subjects aged 65 and over
