Indications
- Control of clinical spasticity
- Management of upper motor neuronal disorders
- Beneficial for functional rehabilitation
- Not indicated for treatment of skeletal muscle spasm resulting from rheumatic disorders
- Prevention or attenuation of signs of malignant hyperthermia
- Prevent recurrence of malignant hyperthermia post crisis
- Significant reduction in painful and/or disabling spasticity
- Permits reduction in intensity and/or degree of nursing care required
- Rids the patient of any annoying manifestation of spasticity considered important by the patient
Pharmacology
- Produces relaxation by affecting the contractile response of skeletal muscle
- Dissociates excitation-contraction coupling in skeletal muscle

Interactions
- Potential drowsiness with therapy

Contraindications
- Active hepatic disease such as hepatitis and cirrhosis

- Necessity of temporary withdrawal in case of severe diarrhea
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus
- Not to be used in nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Therapy should be stopped if benefits are not evident within 45 days
- Caution against driving a motor vehicle or participating in hazardous occupations
- Exercise caution in concomitant administration of tranquilizing agents
- Possible photosensitivity reaction
- Potential for fatal and non-fatal liver disorders
- Initial and subsequent liver function studies prior to and during therapy
- Using with caution in patients with impaired pulmonary function or severely impaired cardiac function
- Use with caution in patients with a history of liver disease or dysfunction
Use in Special Populations
- Long-term safety in pediatric patients under the age of 5 years not established
- Benefit-risk consideration for long-term use in pediatric patients important
