Description
- Rezor is indicated for the treatment of hypertension
- Angiotensin II receptor blocker
Indications
- Treatment of hypertension
- May be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents
Pharmacology
- Blocks vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin II
- Stimulates synthesis and release of aldosterone
- Cardiac stimulation and renal reabsorption of sodium
Dosage & Administration
- Starting dose of 20 mg once daily
- Max dose of 40 mg
- No initial dosage adjustment for elderly patients
- May be administered with or without food
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported with digoxin or warfarin
- Not metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system
- May result in deterioration of renal function when used with NSAIDs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
Side Effects
- Well tolerated with adverse reactions similar to placebo
- Most common adverse reaction was dizziness
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Discontinue when pregnancy is detected
- Can cause injury to developing fetus
- Unknown excretion in human milk
- Decision on nursing to be made considering drug importance to the mother
Precautions & Warnings
- Changes in renal function may be anticipated
- Associated with oliguria and/or progressive azotemia in susceptible individuals
- Treatment may affect renal function
