Indications
- Treatment of hypertension alone or with other antihypertensive agents
- Lowering blood pressure
Pharmacology
- Dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker
- Peripheral arterial vasodilator
- Blocks vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II
Dosage & Administration
- Substitute individually titrated components
- Initial therapy with 5/20 mg once daily
- Titration up to a maximum of 10/40 mg once daily
Interaction
- Attenuation of antihypertensive effect by NSAIDs including selective COX-2 inhibitors
Contraindications
- Cannot be co-administered with Aliskiren in patients with diabetes

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category D
- Should not be used in 2nd and 3rd trimester
- Discontinuation upon pregnancy detection

Precautions & Warnings
- Hypotension risk in volume or salt depleted patients
- Vasodilation risk in patients with severe aortic stenosis
- Increased angina or acute MI risk in patients with severe obstructive coronary artery disease
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients
- No overall differences in safety or effectiveness in subjects 65 years or older
- No studies in patients with renal impairment
- Initial therapy not recommended in hepatically impaired patients
