Indications and Usage
- Management of moderate to moderately severe pain in adults
- Short-term (five days or less) management of acute pain
Pharmacology
- Has analgesic and antipyretic properties
- Weak anti-inflammatory activity
- Thought to act primarily in the CNS
- Increases pain threshold by inhibiting COX-1, COX-2, and COX-3 enzymes
- Centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic
- Two complementary mechanisms of action: binding to µ-opioid receptors and weak inhibition of norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake
Dosage and Administration
- Recommended dose for moderate to moderately severe pain: 1 or 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours
- Recommended dose for short-term acute pain: 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours
- Maximum of 8 tablets per day
- Can be administered without regard to food
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to tramadol, paracetamol, or opioids
- Contraindicated in situations where opioids are contraindicated
