Description
- Diastat is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
- It is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.
- Empagliflozin is a sodium glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor.
- The recommended dose of Empagliflozin is 10 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food.
- Assessment of renal function is recommended prior to initiation of Diastat and periodically thereafter.
- In the event of an overdose, the usual supportive measures should be employed.

- Assessment of renal function prior to initiation
- Not initiated in patients with eGFR less than 45 ml/min/1.73 m²
- No dose adjustment needed in patients with eGFR ≥ 45 ml/min/1.73 m²
