Description

  • Diastat is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • It is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.
  • Empagliflozin is a sodium glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor.
  • The recommended dose of Empagliflozin is 10 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food.
  • Assessment of renal function is recommended prior to initiation of Diastat and periodically thereafter.
  • In the event of an overdose, the usual supportive measures should be employed.

  • Not initiated in patients with eGFR less than 45 ml/min/1.73 m²
  • No dose adjustment needed in patients with eGFR ≥ 45 ml/min/1.73 m²
