Indications
- Preventing fertilization in case of unprotected intercourse
- Use within 12 hours of unprotected intercourse for best results
- Must be used no later than 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse
- Suitable for cases of unprotected intercourse, forgotten contraceptive pills, condom breakage, fear of intrauterine device expulsion, and others
Composition
- 1.5 mg tablet contains 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel
- 0.75 mg tablet contains 0.75 mg of levonorgestrel
- Each pack contains round white tablets
Description
- Emergency contraceptive for women
- Should be used within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse
- Not a regular birth control pill
- Also known as Post Coital Pill and Morning After Pill
- Contains active substance Norix 1
- Information about the menstrual cycle and contraception
- Aims to prevent ovulation, fertilization, and implantation
Pharmacology
- Levonorgestrel suppresses gonadotropins and inhibits ovulation
- Binds to progesterone and androgen receptors
- Slows the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)
Dosage
- 1.5 mg tablet: intake of one tablet within 72 hours of intercourse
- 0.75 mg tablet: first tablet within 72 hours and second tablet after 12 hours
- Use a local contraceptive mean until the next menstrual period
- Does not contraindicate continuation of regular hormonal contraception
Administration
- Oral use
- Take with a glass of water
Interaction
- Simultaneous administration with certain anticonvulsant agents can reduce effectiveness
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levonorgestrel or any excipients
Side Effects
- Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, headache
- Abdominal pain, breast tenderness, bleeding
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not indicated in case of pre-existing pregnancy
- No adverse effects on fetus malformation indicated
- Levonorgestrel secreted into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Must be used exceptionally and not as a regular intake
- Check for absence of pregnancy if abnormal bleeding occurs
- Not recommended in cases of ectopic pregnancy or severe digestive disease
Overdose Effects
- No acute toxicity demonstrated with multiple doses
