Composition
- Each tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Each DX tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Each effervescent tablet contains Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
Pharmacology
- Adequate Calcium in the blood is vital for bodily functions
- Clinical evidence suggests Calcium is useful for the prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis
- Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones and aids in Calcium absorption
- Vitamin D stimulates bone formation and has synergistic effects with Calcium
- Coral Calcium has a chemical structure similar to human bone and ensures better absorption
- Vitamin D3 aids absorption of Calcium and helps maintain Calcium balance in the body
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by physician
- Effervescent tablet: Dissolve in a glass of water and drink orally, stir before drinking
Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Simultaneous treatment with ion exchange resins or laxatives may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
- Calcium carbonate may interfere with absorption of tetracycline preparations
- Hypercalcaemia may increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides
- Hypercalcaemia may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride
- Oxalic acid and phytic acid may inhibit calcium absorption
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
- Overdoses of calcium and vitamin D should be avoided in pregnancy
- No indications that vitamin D at therapeutic doses is teratogenic in humans
- Vitamin D3 passes into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor serum calcium levels and renal function during long-term treatment
- Monitor serum calcium levels in elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
- Monitor effect on calcium and phosphate levels in patients with impaired renal function
- Use vitamin D with caution in patients with impairment of renal function
- Prescribe with caution to patients suffering from sarcoidosis or immobilized patients with osteoporosis
- Consider dose of vitamin D when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
- Monitor serum calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion frequently when taking additional doses of calcium or vitamin D
Overdose Effects
- Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcaemia
- Symptoms may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias
- High calcium levels may lead to irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
- Treatment involves discontinuing calcium and other implicated medications, rehydration, and monitoring serum electrolytes and renal function
