Description
- Ceflon is indicated in the treatment of respiratory tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and more.
- Cefaclor is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with stability against beta-lactamase inactivation and possesses a broad spectrum of activity.
- Dosage & Administration: Adult dose - 250 mg every 8 hours, Pediatric dose - 20 mg/kg/day, Storage Conditions - store at room temperature and protect from light.
Indications
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections
- Otitis media treatment
- Treatment of pharyngitis and tonsillitis
- Treatment of urinary tract infections
- Treatment of skin and skin structure infections
Pharmacology
- Stability against beta-lactamase inactivation
- Broad spectrum of activity against various organisms
- Eradication of Streptococci from the nasopharynx
Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dose of 250 mg every 8 hours
- Pediatric dosage of 20 mg/kg/day
- Maximum dosage of 4 g/day for severe infections
Interaction
- False-positive reaction for glucose in the urine with certain tests
- Potential increased anticoagulant effect with concomitant anticoagulants administration
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to the Cephalosporin group of antibiotics
Side Effects
- Gastro-intestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting
- Transient hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice
- Fever, abdominal pain, superinfection, renal dysfunction
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Small amounts detected in mother's milk
- Caution advised for nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid prescribing in the absence of proven or suspected bacterial infection
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms
- Caution advised in penicillin-sensitive patients
Overdose Effects
- Toxic symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, and diarrhea
