Description
- A combination medication used for the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension in patients stabilized on the individual components given in the same proportion.
Dosage and Administration
- Guided dosage titration based on clinical effect
- For convenience, patients may switch to combination therapy tablets
- Maximum daily dose: 10 mg ramipril and 50 mg hydrochlorothiazide
Indications
- Treatment of mild to moderate hypertension in patients where combination therapy is appropriate
- Effectively manages heart failure
- Reduces the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and death from cardiovascular events
Mode of Action
- Ramipril: angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor
- Ramipril reduces plasma angiotensin II and decreases vasopressor activity
- Hydrochlorothiazide: thiazide diuretic that increases excretion of sodium and chloride
Interaction
- Potentiates antihypertensive response to diuretics or other antihypertensive agents
- May weaken the effectiveness of blood sugar lowering medications
