Mitosan Plus 40 mg+12.5 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Treatment of hypertension
• Lowering blood pressure
• Reducing risk of cardiovascular events

Pharmacology

• Telmisartan blocks vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II
• Hydrochlorothiazide affects renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption

Dosage & Administration

• Initiate with Telmisartan monotherapy 80 mg
• Dose can be titrated up to 160 mg/25 mg after 2 to 4 weeks
• May be administered with other antihypertensive drugs

Interaction

• Caution when taking with aliskiren, digoxin, lithium, NSAIDs, corticosteroids, ACE blockers, angiotensin II blockers

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity
• Do not co-administer Aliskiren with this tablet in patients with Diabetes

Side Effects

• Common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, tired feeling, flushing, back pain, nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain
• Other adverse events include allergy, fever, leg pain, chest pain, insomnia

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category D
• Use during second and third trimesters reduces fetal renal function and increases morbidity
• Not known whether telmisartan is excreted in human milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Tell doctor about medical history
• Check blood sugar regularly if diabetic
• May affect body potassium levels

Use in Special Populations

• Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients not established
• Dose selection for elderly patients should be cautious
• Close medical supervision for patients with biliary obstructive disorders or hepatic insufficiency

Overdose Effects

• The most likely manifestations of overdosage are hypertension, dizziness, tachycardia, bradycardia, hypokalemia
