Description

  • Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide combination medication for lowering blood pressure

Indications

Mode of Action

  • Telmisartan blocks vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II
  • Hydrochlorothiazide affects renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption

Dosage & Administration

  • Initial dose of Telmisartan monotherapy 80 mg or Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily
  • Dose titration up to Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide 160 mg/25 mg after 2 to 4 weeks

Interaction

  • Caution when taking with aliskiren, digoxin, lithium, other high blood pressure medicines, NSAIDs, corticosteroids, ACE blockers, angiotensin II receptor blockers

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Telmisartan, Hydrochlorothiazide or any other component
  • Co-administration of Aliskiren with diabetes patients
