Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of chronic constipation in adults
Pharmacology
- Selective stimulator of 5-HT4 receptors
- Stimulation of propulsive motility
- Release of acetylcholine in the GI tract
Dosage & Administration
- 2 mg once daily for adults
- Start with 1 mg once daily for older people
- Not recommended for children under 18 years
Interaction
- Low interaction potential with therapeutic concentrations
- Not expected to affect CYP-mediated metabolism
- Increased systemic exposure with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to active substance or excipients
- Renal impairment requiring dialysis
Side Effects
- Headache
- Gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea)
- Occur predominantly at the start of therapy
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy
- Effective contraception recommended for women of childbearing potential
- Not recommended during breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Dose adjustment in severe renal impairment
- Caution in severe hepatic impairment
- Possibility of reduced efficacy of oral contraceptives in case of severe diarrhea
- Contain lactose, unsuitable for patients with specific lactose intolerance
