Indications
- Treatment of hypertension
- Lowering blood pressure
- Reducing risk of cardiovascular events
Pharmacology
- Telmisartan blocks vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin II
- Hydrochlorothiazide affects renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption
Dosage & Administration
- Initiate with Telmisartan monotherapy 80 mg
- Can be administered with other antihypertensive drugs
Interaction
- Caution with aliskiren, digoxin, NSAIDs, corticosteroids, ACE blockers, angiotensin II receptor blockers
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Telmisartan or Hydrochlorothiazide
- Avoid co-administration with Aliskiren in diabetic patients
