Indications

• Treatment of hypertension

• Oral medication

• AT1 subtype antagonist
• Blood vessel dilation
• Reduction of blood pressure

Dosage & Administration

• Once daily dosage
• Maximum allowed dose
• No initial dosage adjustment for elderly
• Not established for pediatric use

Interaction

• Interaction with diuretics
• Effects on serum potassium levels
• Potential interaction with lithium salts, warfarin, and digoxin
• Additive effect with other antihypertensive drugs

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any component
• Anuria
• Hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs

Side Effects

• Common side effects include headache, dizziness, fatigue, abdominal pain, cough, and nausea
• Potential for hyperkalemia, impotency, reduced renal function, and allergic reactions

• Dosage reduction or discontinuation for patients with pre-existing renal impairment

• Manifestations of Valsartan overdosage include hypotension and tachycardia
• Electrolyte depletion symptoms from Hydrochlorothiazide overdosage
