Description
- Selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist
- Used for prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma
- Acute prevention of Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB)
- Relief of symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis (AR): Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
DosageAndAdministration
- Adult dosage: 10 mg tablet once daily
- Pediatric dosage: 4 mg to 5 mg once daily
- No dosage adjustment in hepatic or renal insufficiency
- Elderly dosage same as adults
Interaction
- No clinically important effects on the pharmacokinetics of specified drugs
- Used concomitantly with a wide range of commonly prescribed drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of this product
SideEffects
- Common: Diarrhoea, fever, gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, nausea, vomiting, skin reactions, upper respiratory tract infection
- Uncommon: Akathisia, anxiety, arthralgia, asthenia, abnormal behavior, and more
- Rare: Angioedema, concentration impaired, disorientation, and more
PregnancyAndLactation
- Crosses the placenta in rats and rabbits
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Caution should be exercised when given to a nursing mother
PrecautionsAndWarnings
- Not for use in the reversal of bronchospasm in acute asthma attacks
- Appropriate rescue medication should be available
- Should not be abruptly substituted for inhaled or oral corticosteroids
- Not to be used as monotherapy for the treatment and management of exercise induced bronchospasm
OverdoseEffects
- Adverse experiences include abdominal pain, somnolence, thirst, headache, vomiting, and psychomotor hyperactivity
- Usual supportive measures should be employed in case of overdose
