Pharmacology
Anti-inflammatory action, inhibition of Phospholipase A2 enzyme, immunosuppressive action
Dosage & Administration
- Adults dosage range: 3-120 mg/day for acute disorders, 3-18 mg/day for most conditions, titration to lowest effective dose
- Children dosage range: 0.25-1.5 mg/kg/day, 0.25-1.0 mg/kg/day for juvenile chronic arthritis, 1.5 mg/kg/day for nephrotic syndrome

Interaction
Metabolized in the liver, recommended dose adjustments for liver enzyme inducers and inhibitors
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ingredients, patients receiving live virus immunization

- Monitoring for diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, myasthenia gravis, renal insufficiency
- Special caution for emotional instability, psychotic tendency, epilepsy
- Special caution for liver failure, hypothyroidism, cirrhosis, ocular herpes simplex
Use in Special Populations
- Hepatic Impairment: Dose monitoring and adjustment recommended
- Renal Impairment: No special precautions required
- Elderly: Common adverse effects may have more serious consequences
