Description
- Deflaza is indicated in various conditions such as anaphylaxis, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, ulcerative colitis, leukemia, autoimmune disorders, nephrotic syndrome, and more.
DosageAndAdministration
- Adults may require up to 120 mg/day initially for acute disorders
- Maintenance doses for most conditions range from 3-18 mg/day
- Children's doses usually range from 0.25-1.5 mg/kg/day
Pharmacology
- Provides anti-inflammatory action by inhibiting Phospholipase A2 enzyme responsible for prostaglandin synthesis
- Decreases release of certain immune system chemicals
Interactions
- Metabolized in the liver
- Maintenance dose may need adjustment if co-administered with liver enzyme inducers or inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its ingredients
- Not recommended for patients receiving live virus immunization
