Indications and Usage

  • Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin & soft tissue infections

Pharmacology

  • Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins
  • Arrests cell wall assembly resulting in bacterial cell death

Dosage and Administration

  • Adult dosage: 1 g per day for pharyngitis and tonsillitis
  • Adult dosage: 1 or 2 g per day for urinary tract infections
  • Adult dosage: 1 g per day for skin and skin structure infections
  • Children dosage: 30 mg/kg daily in divided doses every 12 hours
  • May be taken with meals or on empty stomach

Drug Interaction

  • No significant drug interaction with other drugs

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil or any of the ingredients

Side Effects

  • Most commonly reported side effects are gastrointestinal disturbances and hypersensitivity phenomena

Pregnancy and Lactation

  • US FDA pregnancy category B
  • Caution should be exercised when administered during lactation

Precautions and Warnings

  • Caution should be taken during diagnosis in patients who develop diarrhea in association with Ficef therapy
  • May cause pseudomembranous colitis
