Indications

Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
Treatment of pharyngitis and tonsillitis

Targeted bacterial pathogens include Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, E. coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella species, Staphylococci, and penicillinase producing bacteria

Description

Ficef is an acid-stable and semi-synthetic oral cephalosporin
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
Maintains urine concentration of antibiotic for 20 to 22 hours

Pharmacology

Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
Binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs)
Arrests cell wall assembly resulting in bacterial cell death

Dosage & Administration

Adult dosage for specific infections
Children dosage
Can be taken with or without meals
Administration with food may help diminish gastrointestinal complaints

Interaction

No significant drug interaction with other drugs

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil or its ingredients

Commonly reported side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances and hypersensitivity phenomena

No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women

May cause pseudomembranous colitis
