Dosage Recommendations
- 40000 IU once weekly for 7 weeks for adults for Vitamin D3 deficiency
- 1400-2000 IU/day for maintenance therapy for adults
- 20000 IU every 4 weeks for prevention of Vitamin D3 deficiency in adults
- 20000 IU once a month as addition to specific therapy for osteoporosis in adults
- 20000 IU once every 2 weeks for 6 weeks for Vitamin D3 deficiency in children (12-18 years)
- 20000 IU every 6 weeks for prevention of Vitamin D3 deficiency in children (12-18 years)
Usability Features
- Take with food or within 1 hour after a meal for certain dosage forms
- Place the tablet in mouth and swallow after chewing for oroflash or chewable tablets

Pharmacology

Interaction
- Drugs causing Vitamin D3 deficiencies: Magnesium containing Antacids, Digoxin, Thiazide Diuretics, Cholestyramine, Cholistipol, Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, Orlistat, Mineral Oil, Corticosteroids
- Corticosteroids increase the need for Vitamin D3

- Diseases associated with hypercalcaemia
- Known hypersensitivity to Vitamin D3 or its class
- Evidence of Vitamin D3 toxicity

- Consideration of additional vitamin D3 doses for breast-fed child
Precautions & Warnings
- Plasma-calcium concentration monitoring for patients receiving high doses
- Consultation before supplementing with Vitamin D3 for individuals using Digoxin and Thiazide Diuretics
- Consultation before supplementing with Vitamin D3 for individuals with liver or kidney disease, primary hyperthyroidism, lymphoma, tuberculosis, and granulomatous disease
