Indications
- Prophylaxis of angina pectoris
Pharmacology
- Causes relaxation of vascular smooth muscle
- Produces a vasodilator effect
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage should be adjusted according to individual patient
- One tablet in morning and evening
Interaction
- May increase antihypertensive properties of vasodilators
- May cause high blood pressure when combined with tricyclic antidepressants and alcohol
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to nitroglycerin
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Closed angle glaucoma
Side Effects
- Headache
- Tachycardia
- Cyanosis
- Syncope
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence relating to safety in pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients predisposed to closed-angle glaucoma
- Abrupt discontinuation may lead to symptom exacerbation
Overdose Effects
- Peripheral vasodilation with fall in blood pressure
- Reflex tachycardia
