- Anti-inflammatory action

Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage up to 120 mg/day for acute disorders
- Maintenance doses within the range of 3-18 mg/day for most conditions
- Children's maintenance dose between 0.25-1.5 mg/kg/day
- Alternate day administration may be appropriate
- Dosage adjustments based on clinical need
- Gradual withdrawal in patients receiving more than physiological doses of systemic corticosteroids
Interaction
- Metabolized in the liver
- Recommendation to adjust dose if co-administered with liver enzyme inducers or inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
- Patients receiving live virus immunization

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Risk of intrauterine growth retardation with prolonged or repeated use during pregnancy

- Potential for adrenal suppression in infants of mothers taking higher doses
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in cardiac disease or congestive heart failure
- Caution in gastritis, oesophagitis, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, peptic ulcer
- Monitoring for salt and water retention, increased potassium excretion
- Caution in diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, myasthenia gravis, renal insufficiency
- Caution in emotional instability, psychotic tendency, epilepsy
- Monitoring for corticosteroid-induced myopathy
- Special caution in liver failure, hypothyroidism, cirrhosis
- Caution in ocular herpes simplex

- Dose monitoring in hepatic impairment
- No special precautions in renally impaired patients
