Pharmacology
- Readily absorbed from the intestine
- Acts directly on smooth muscle fibers

Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dose: 1-2 tablets three times daily
- Adult injection dose: 2-4ml subcutaneously or intramuscularly
- Acute stone colic injection dose: 2-4ml slow intravenous
- Children's dose based on age and body weight
- Combination with atropine for peptic ulcer
- Adolescent dose: 1/2 to 1 tablet daily
Interactions
- May attenuate the action of levodopa
- Additive beneficial effect with concurrent use of analgesics, antimuscarinics or benzodiazepines
Contraindications
- History of hypersensitivity to Drotaverine HCl

- Rare cases of nausea
- Rare cases of vertigo
