Pharmacology
- Bactericidal action against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
- Interferes with the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
- High stability in the presence of beta-lactamase enzyme
- 40-50% absorption rate with or without food
Dosage & Administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7-14 days
- Adult dosage: 200-400 mg daily based on severity
- Children dosage: 8 mg/kg/day in single or divided doses
Interaction
- Possible increase in prothrombin times in a few patients
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
Side Effects
- Mild and self-limiting adverse reactions observed in clinical trials
- Gastrointestinal disturbances, Central nervous system effects, Hypersensitivity reactions, Hematological and clinical chemistry changes

- Gastric Lavage may be indicated, No specific antidote available, Not efficiently removed by dialysis
