Description
Lamogin is a phenyltriazine antiepileptic used to treat some types of epilepsy and bipolar disorder. It controls epileptic seizures by inhibiting voltage-sensitive sodium channels, thereby stabilizing neuronal membranes and consequently inhibiting presynaptic excitatory neurotransmitter release.
Indications
- Adjunctive therapy for epilepsy (patients aged 2 years and older)
- Monotherapy for epilepsy (patients aged 16 years and older)
- Treatment for bipolar disorder (patients aged 18 years and older)
Mode of Action
- Inhibition of voltage-sensitive sodium channels
- Stabilization of neuronal membranes
- Inhibition of presynaptic excitatory neurotransmitter release
Dosage and Administration
- Various dosing regimens based on age, concomitant medications, and condition (epilepsy or bipolar disorder)
- Maintenance doses for different patient groups
Interactions
- Increased concentrations with valproate
- Decreased concentrations with carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone, rifampin, and estrogen-containing oral contraceptives
- Decreased exposure with protease inhibitors lopinavir/ritonavir and atazanavir/ritonavir
