Description
- Calcium and Vitamin D3 supplement for the prevention and treatment of Calcium and Vitamin D deficiency, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, hypoparathyroidism, disorders of osteogenesis, and other related conditions.
Indications

- Supplement for inadequate intake of Calcium in childhood diet
- Supplement for rickets, pregnancy, lactation, and elderly patients
- Indicated for pancreatitis and as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure
Composition
- Each tablet contains 1250 mg Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg elemental Calcium & 200 IU Vitamin D
- Each DX tablet contains 1500 mg Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg elemental Calcium & 400 IU Vitamin D
- Each effervescent tablet contains 1500 mg Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg elemental Calcium & 400 IU Vitamin D3 as Cholecalciferol
Pharmacology
- Calcium is vital for a variety of bodily functions and is useful for the prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis
- Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption and stimulates bone formation
- Coral Calcium has a composition similar to human bone for better absorption
- Vitamin D3 helps to maintain Calcium balance in the body
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water, preferably taken with food for better absorption
- Effervescent tablet should be dissolved in water and taken orally, preferably with food for better absorption
Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Concomitant use with ion exchange resins and laxatives may reduce Vitamin D absorption
- Interference with the absorption of tetracycline preparations
- Possible increase in toxicity of cardiac glycosides
- Need to administer separate from bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride intake
- Inhibition of calcium absorption by oxalic acid and phytic acid from certain foods
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the components
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Concomitant digoxin therapy

- Rarely hypercalcemia
- Allergic reactions
- Irregular heartbeats
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Decreased appetite
- Dry mouth
- Drowsiness
- Skin rash (from Vitamin D supplements)
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use should not exceed specific calcium and vitamin D doses during pregnancy
- High doses of vitamin D can have reproductive toxicity
- Overdoses should be avoided to prevent adverse effects on the developing fetus
- No indication of teratogenicity in humans
- Use during breastfeeding and caution of passage of calcium and vitamin D into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitoring of serum calcium levels and renal function during long-term treatment
- Renal function monitoring in elderly patients, especially with concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
- Caution in patients with impairment of renal function and risk of soft tissue calcification
- Special consideration in severe renal insufficiency and sarcoidosis
- Use with caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis, especially for hypercalcaemia risk
- Consideration of vitamin D dose when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
- Close medical supervision for additional calcium or vitamin D doses
Overdose Effects
- Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcaemia
- Symptoms may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, and more severe conditions
- Treatment includes discontinuation of calcium and other implicated treatments, rehydration, and monitoring of electrolytes and renal function
