Description
Glipizide & Metformin tablets are indicated for improving glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It contains two active ingredients, Glipizide and Metformin, which work in combination to help manage blood sugar levels.
Indications
- Management of type 2 diabetes
- Adjunct to diet and exercise
- Initial therapy for hyperglycemia
Pharmacology
- Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production
- Glipizide stimulates insulin release from the pancreas
- Improves insulin sensitivity
Dosage & Administration
- To be taken once or twice daily with meals
- Initiate at low dose with gradual escalation
- Different starting doses for initial and second-line therapy
Interaction
- Cimetidine reduces renal clearance of Metformin
- Alcohol potentiates the effect of Metformin
- Enhanced absorption with Nifedipine
- Potentiation of sulfonylureas by certain drugs

- Hypersensitivity to the drug
- Renal impairment
- Diabetic coma and ketoacidosis
