Indications
- Prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma
- Acute prevention of Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB)
- Relief of symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis (AR): Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
Pharmacology
- Leukotriene receptor antagonist
- Inhibits cysteinyl leukotriene receptor
- Correlated with pathophysiology of asthma and allergic rhinitis
- Affects airway edema, smooth muscle contraction, and inflammatory process
Dosage & Administration
- Adults and adolescents: Montelukast 10 mg tablet once daily
- Pediatric patients:
- 6 to 14 years of age: Montelukast 5 mg tablet once daily
- 2 to 5 years of age: Montelukast 4 mg tablet once daily
- 6 months to 5 years of age: Montelukast 4 mg oral granules once daily
- Hepatic Insufficiency: No dosage adjustment required
- Renal Insufficiency: No dosage adjustment recommended
- Elderly use: Similar pharmacokinetic profile as in adults, slightly longer plasma half-life
Interaction
- No apparent increase in adverse reactions with other therapies
- No clinically important effects on the pharmacokinetics of certain drugs
- Used concomitantly with a wide range of commonly prescribed drugs without evidence of clinical adverse interactions

Overdose Effects
- No adverse experiences in majority of overdose reports
- Usual supportive measures recommended in case of overdose
