Pharmacology
Non-peptide angiotensin-II receptor antagonist. Blocks vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin-II.
Dosage & Administration
- Usual starting dose: 40 mg once a day
- Blood pressure response is dose-related over the range of 20 to 80 mg
- Additional blood pressure reduction may require a switch to combination therapy
- No initial dosage adjustment necessary for elderly patients or patients with renal impairment
- Pediatric use not established
- Recommended to monitor patients with hepatic impairment
Interaction
- Increased risk of renal impairment and loss of antihypertensive effect when co-administered with NSAIDs
- Co-administration with aliskiren in patients with diabetes should be avoided

- Known hypersensitivity to the product or any of its components
