Indications
- Treatment of peri-operative hypertension
- Controlling congestive heart failure in the setting of acute myocardial infarction
- Treatment of angina pectoris in non-responsive patients
- Induction of intraoperative hypotension
Pharmacology
- Relaxation of vascular smooth muscle
- Dilatation of peripheral arteries and veins
- Reduction of left ventricular end-diastolic pressure
- Dilatation of coronary arteries
- Reduction of systemic vascular resistance
Dosage & Administration
- Not for direct intravenous injection
- Must be diluted in dextrose or sodium chloride injection prior to infusion

Interaction
- Additive vasodilating effects with other vasodilators
- Potential pseudoagglutination and hemolysis with blood infusion
- Interference with heparin therapy
Contraindications
- Allergy to organic nitrates
- Pericardial tamponade, restrictive cardiomyopathy, or constrictive pericarditis
