Therapeutic Class

Indications

  • Improving glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Pharmacology

  • Inhibitor of DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4)
  • Inhibits degradation of incretin hormones GLP-1 and GIP
  • Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells
  • Decreases glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells
  • Lowers basal and postprandial plasma glucose levels
  • Decreases hepatic glucose production
  • Improves insulin sensitivity

Dosage & Administration

  • Maximum recommended dose of 2.5 mg Linagliptin and 1000 mg Metformin Hydrochloride twice daily with meals
