Indications
- Acute relief of angina pectoris
- Prophylaxis of angina pectoris
Dosage
- 1 to 2 metered sprays at the onset of an attack
- Maximum 3 metered sprays within 15 minutes
Mode of Action
- Relaxation of vascular smooth muscle
- Vasodilator effect on arteries and veins
- Reduction of left ventricular end-diastolic pressure
Administration Instructions
- Sit down when experiencing angina
- Do not shake the container
- Press the button slowly to spray under the tongue
- Avoid swallowing immediately after administering the spray
Interaction
- Severe hypotension and collapse with alcohol
- Enhanced bioavailability of dihydroergotamine with oral nitroglycerin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to nitrates
- Hypotension, hypovolaemia, severe anaemia
- Concomitant administration of phosphodiesterase inhibitors for erectile dysfunction
