Indications
- Adjunct to diet and exercise for type 2 diabetes mellitus

Description
- Oral blood-glucose-lowering drug of the meglitinide class
- Management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (NIDDM)
- Stimulates insulin secretion
Pharmacology
- Binds to specific receptors leading to closure of K+ channels
- Leads to Ca++ influx and insulin secretion
Dosage & Administration
- Starting dose based on HbA1c level
- Taken before each meal
- Dosage adjustment at intervals
- Maximum 16 mg daily
Interaction
- Potential interactions with cytochrome P450 inhibitors and inducers
