Indications
- Vaginal Candidiasis

- Dosage adjustments for elderly patients and those with renal impairment
Interaction
- Interaction with warfarin, sulphonyl ureas, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampicin, oral contraceptives, cyclosporin, food, cimetidine, antacids, theophylline
- Monitoring and potential dose adjustments for theophylline and cyclosporin levels
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or related triazole compounds
Side Effects
- Common gastrointestinal symptoms
- Rarely encountered adverse events such as rash and anaphylaxis
Pregnancy & Lactation
Adverse fetal effects seen in animals at high maternal dose levels, not recommended in pregnancy or in women of childbearing potential without adequate contraception
Precautions & Warnings
- Abnormalities in hepatic, renal, haematological, and biochemical function tests in some patients
- Rare occurrences of hepatic necrosis, exfoliative cutaneous reactions, and severe cutaneous reactions especially in AIDS patients
- Use of fluconazole not recommended during lactation
Use in Special Populations
- Normal dose in elderly (no evidence of renal impairment)
- Dosage adjustments in renal impairment based on creatinine clearance
- No adjustments in single dose therapy for renal impairment
Overdose Effects
Supportive and symptomatic treatment, forced volume diuresis may increase elimination rate, haemodialysis decreases plasma levels by approximately 50%
