Indications
- Treatment of active duodenal ulcer
- Treatment of active benign gastric ulcer
- Treatment of symptomatic erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Long-term management of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD Maintenance)
- Symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe gastro-esophageal reflux disease (symptomatic GERD)
- Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
- Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcer disease
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of gastric proton-pump
- Suppression of gastric acid secretion
Dosage
- Recommended oral dose for active duodenal ulcer and active benign gastric ulcer: 20 mg once daily in the morning
- Recommended oral dose for erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease: 20 mg once daily for four to eight weeks
- Maintenance dose of rabeprazole sodium 20 mg or 10 mg once daily
- Dosage for treatment of GERD in pediatric patients
Administration
- Tablets to be taken in the morning before eating
Interaction
- Potential interaction with compounds dependent on gastric pH
- Potential decrease in antifungal plasma levels when co-administered with ketoconazole or itraconazole
- No interaction with liquid antacids
- Not recommended to be co-administered with atazanavir
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Contraindicated in pregnancy and during breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings
- Symptomatic response does not exclude the presence of malignancy
- Regular surveillance for long-term treatment
- Potential increase in risk of hip, wrist, and spine fracture
- Risk of cross-hypersensitivity reactions
- Reports of blood dyscrasias and hepatic enzyme abnormalities
- Care advised for patients with severe hepatic dysfunction
Use in Special Populations
- No dosage adjustment necessary for patients with renal or hepatic impairment
- Not recommended for use in children
Overdose Effects
- Maximum established exposure not exceeding 60 mg twice daily
- Effects generally minimal and reversible without further medical intervention
