Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of chronic constipation in adults
Pharmacology
- Selective stimulator of 5-HT4 receptors
- Stimulates motility in the gastrointestinal tract
Dosage & Administration
- 2 mg once daily for adults
- Start with 1 mg for older people
- Not for children under 18 years
Interaction
- Low interaction potential with co-medicated medicinal products
- Mild increase in systemic exposure with potent inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to active substance or excipients
- Renal impairment requiring dialysis
Side Effects
- Frequently reported adverse reactions: headache, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhoea
- Majority of adverse events are mild to moderate in intensity
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy
- Effective contraception advised for women of childbearing potential during treatment
- Not recommended during breastfeeding based on animal studies
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in severe renal impairment
- Limited data in severe hepatic impairment
- Possible reduction in efficacy of oral contraceptives in severe diarrhoea
- Not suitable for patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance

Overdose Effects
- Symptoms may include headache, nausea, diarrhoea
- Supportive treatment for extensive fluid loss
