Indication
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria
Pharmacology
- H1 histamine receptor mediation
- Inhibition of histamine effects
- Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
- Lack of CNS effects
Dosage
- 60 mg tablet dosage for adults and children 12 years and older
- 30 mg tablet dosage for children from 6 to 11 years
- 30 mg or 5 ml suspension dosage for children from 2 to 11 years
Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation
- Interaction with erythromycin or ketoconazole
- No interaction with omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability with antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients
Side effects
- Common: headache, drowsiness, nausea
- Uncommon: fatigue
- Possible hypersensitivity reactions, tachycardia, diarrhea, rash, urticaria, pruritus
Pregnancy and lactation
- Limited data on use in pregnant women
- Not recommended during breastfeeding
- No human data on effect on fertility
Precautions and warnings
- Limited data in older people, renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Care needed in patients with ongoing cardiovascular disease
- Unlikely to produce significant effects on driving or machine use
Special populations
- Altered pharmacokinetics in renal and hepatic impaired patients
- Similar adverse events in elderly patients
- Increased bioavailability in individuals over 65 years of age

- Dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth
