Indications
- Treatment of ear, nose and throat infections
- Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid
- Rapid absorption after oral administration
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 250 mg three times daily
- Adult dosage for severe infections: 500 mg three times daily
- Children dosage: 125 mg three times daily
- Children dosage for severe infections: 250 mg three times daily
- Recommended dosage for severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection
- Recommended dosage for otitis media
- Recommended dosage for pneumonia
- Recommended dosage for dental abscess
- Recommended dosage for urinary tract infections
- Recommended dosage for gonorrhoea
- Dosage adjustment may be necessary in renal impairment
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, water
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels
- May affect gut flora and lower estrogen reabsorption
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects including diarrhea, indigestion, rash
- Rare reports of pseudo-membranous colitis
