Description
- Empadus 25 mg Tablet is a sodium glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.
Dosage
- The recommended dose of Empadus 25 mg Tablet is 10 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food. In patients tolerating Empadus 25 mg Tablet, the dose may be increased to 25 mg once daily.

- Can be taken with or without food
Pharmacology
- Empadus 25 mg Tablet is a sodium glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor. It reduces renal absorption of glucose, resulting in increased glucose excretion, reduced hyperglycemia, weight loss, and reduced blood pressure.
Interaction
- Co-administration with diuretics results in increased urine volume. Co-administration with insulin or insulin secretagogues increases the risk for hypoglycemia.
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with history of serious hypersensitivity reaction to Empadus or any of its ingredients, severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, or dialysis.
Side effects
- Common adverse reactions include urinary tract infections, female genital mycotic infections, dehydration, hypotension, weakness, dizziness, and increased thirstiness.
Pregnancy and lactation
- Empadus 25 mg Tablet should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not recommended when breastfeeding.
Precautions and warnings
- Assessment of renal function is recommended prior to initiation of Empadus 25 mg Tablet and periodically thereafter. Should not be initiated in patients with an eGFR less than 45 ml/min/1.73 m2.
Overdose effects
- In the event of an overdose, usual supportive measures should be employed. Removal by hemodialysis has not been studied.
