Indications

Pharmacology
- Antibacterial activity
- Hydrolysis to formaldehyde in acid urine
- Activity against E. coli, enterococci, and staphylococci
Dosage & Administration
- 1 tablet twice daily for adults
- 0.5-1 tablet twice daily for pediatric patients
- Greater efficacy in acid urine
- Monitoring therapy through repeated urine cultures
Contraindications
- Renal insufficiency
- Severe hepatic insufficiency
- Severe dehydration
- Concurrent use with sulfonamides
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safe use not established in early pregnancy
- Safety suggested in last trimester
- Interference with urine estriol tests in pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescription only for proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection
- Maintenance of acid pH of the urine
- Monitoring liver function in patients with liver dysfunction
