Indications
- Essential hypertension
- Angina pectoris
- Vasospastic angina
Pharmacology
- Calcium-channel blocker
- Vasodilation
- Blood pressure reduction
- Coronary blood flow increase
Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose 5 mg once daily for hypertension
- Usual dose 5-10 mg for angina
- May be taken without regard to meals
Interaction
- Avoid combination with p-blockers in impaired cardiac left ventricular function
- No significant interactions with Digoxin, Cimetidine, Warfarin or food
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to dihydropyridine derivatives
- Pregnancy

- Increased micturition frequency
- Lethargy
- Eye pain
- Mental depression

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Use justified only if benefit outweighs risk
- Discontinue nursing while administered
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with hepatic impairment
- Caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Use in Special Populations
- Specific dosing for children with hypertension
- Elderly well tolerated at similar doses
- Normal dosage in renal impairment
- Caution and lower dose in mild to moderate hepatic impairment
- Initiate at lowest dose in severe hepatic impairment
Overdose Effects
- Excessive peripheral vasodilatation
- Reflex tachycardia
- Marked systemic hypotension
- Management with cardiovascular support and fluid volume attention
- Use of vasoconstrictor and intravenous calcium gluconate
- Potential benefit of gastric lavage and charcoal use
- Dialysis not likely to be of benefit
