Indications
- Treatment of hypertension
- Lowering blood pressure
- Initial therapy for multiple antihypertensive agents

Pharmacology
- Amlodipine as calcium channel blocker
- Greater effect on vascular smooth muscle cells
- Peripheral arterial vasodilator
- Olmesartan Medoxomil blocks vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin II
Dosage & Administration
- Initial therapy with 5/20 mg once daily
- Titration up to maximum 10/40 mg once daily
- Lower starting dose of Amlodipine for elderly patients
- Not recommended for patients over 75 years old
Interaction
- Attenuation of antihypertensive effect by NSAIDs
- Monitoring of blood pressure, renal function, and electrolytes
Contraindications
- Co-administration with Aliskiren in patients with diabetes

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category D
- Avoid use in 2nd and 3rd trimester
- Discontinuation during pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings
- Risk of hypotension in volume- or salt-depleted patients
- Vasodilation in patients with severe aortic stenosis
- Increased angina frequency, duration, or severity in patients with obstructive coronary artery disease
Use in Special Populations
- No established safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients
- No overall differences in safety or effectiveness in geriatric patients
- No studies in patients with renal impairment
- Initial therapy not recommended in hepatically impaired patients
