Indications
- Schizophrenia
- Bipolar disorder

Pharmacology
- Atypical antipsychotic
- Partial agonist activity at Dopamine D2 and Serotonin 5-HT 1A receptors
- Antagonist activity at Serotonin 5-HT 2A receptors
Dosage
- Adult dosage for Schizophrenia
- Adolescent dosage for Schizophrenia
- Adult dosage for Bipolar mania (monotherapy)
- Adult dosage for Bipolar mania (adjunct to lithium or valproate)
- Pediatric dosage for Bipolar mania
- Adult dosage as an adjunct to antidepressants for major depressive disorder
- Pediatric dosage for irritability associated with autistic disorder
Administration
- Oral formulations - Once daily without regard to meals
- IM injection - Wait at least 2 hours between doses. Maximum daily dose 30 mg
Interaction
- Caution with centrally acting drugs and alcohol
- Interaction with Carbamazepine, Ketoconazole, quinidine, fluoxetine, paroxetine

- Known hypersensitivity to Aripiprazole

- Increased risk of cerebrovascular adverse events in elderly patients with Dementia-Related Psychosis
- Increased risk of suicidality with antidepressants
- Tardive dyskinesia
- Metabolic changes
- Orthostatic hypotension
- Seizures/Convulsions
- Caution with machinery operation
Overdose Effects
- No fatalities up to 1080 mg dosage
- Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, asthenia, diarrhea, somnolence
