Indications
- Prophylaxis against arterial occlusive events
- Mild to moderate pain
- Chronic disease accompanied by pain and inflammation
- Antipyretic
Pharmacology
- Decreases platelet aggregation
- Inhibits thrombus formation
- Analgesic for headache and musculoskeletal pain
- Anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties
Dosage & Administration
- Aspirin 300 mg for pain and inflammation
- Aspirin 150 mg-300 mg for suspected acute coronary syndrome
- Aspirin 150 mg daily after myocardial infarction
- Aspirin 150 mg-300 mg for acute ischaemic stroke/TIA
- Aspirin 75 mg-300 mg following bypass surgery
Interaction
- Enhances effect of anticoagulants
- Inhibits uricosuric effect of probenecid
- May precipitate bronchospasm or induce asthma attacks
Contraindications
- Children less than 12 years old
- Breastfeeding
- Active peptic ulcer
- Bleeding due to haemophilia
- Intracranial haemorrhage
Side Effects
- Mild side effects such as nausea and dyspepsia
- Gastrointestinal ulceration
- Bronchospasm
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid use during last 3 months of pregnancy
- Administer with caution to lactating mothers
